The election is over, now what…
I often told my wife that after Nov 4th I would have tons of free time and stop political blogging. She would reply, “yeah right, you’ll find something to blog about” and she was right as she usually is. 
I learned a lot while volunteering with the McCain team here in Pennsylvania, I also learned a lot while running MyMcCainBlog.com, Pennsylvanai4JohnMcCain.com and Lancaster4McCain.com. Probably the biggest thing I learned was that the more local I got the better the results. Sure I could pundit all day long about the national election but everyone and there brother was doing the same and writing about the same stuff.
With Pennsylvania4JohnMcCain.com I created an activism oriented site, all I did was put up information, how to get in touch with other volunteers, how to blog, how to set up a meetup, how to create your own campaign materials, etc. And in the 2 months it ran it was effective. The search terms people used to get there were all hyper specific, here are the top entrance keywords:
- printable john mccain signs
- lancaster gop/victory office
- lancaster gop/victory office phone number
- bucks county victory office
- erie victory hq
- penna gop headquarters
- philadelphia victory hq
- diy mccain yard sign
- john mccain harrisburg phone number
- john mccain headquarters blue bell pennsylvania
They were all searches for information that did not exist on the JohnMcCain.com website. There was no way for regular people to get connected locally.
So back to the original question, now what?
Now my vision is three fold
- Keep blogging but focus mainly on Pennsylvania and specifically Lancaster PA
- Connect with other groups online and offline to keep the commonwealth conservative
- Teach other people how to use technology as a tool in local politics
I will be posting about these things in more detail and I may change them but I do believe that in order to keep the commonwealth conservative we need to connect, collaborate and conquer (how about that aliteration)
