Rep. Kauffman, who I interviewed various times as a former newspaper managing editor, said there is a house bill with only 37 members supporting the legislation. Where is it now? We live in Cumberland County, Rep. Gabig district, who Mr. Kauffman referred me to and who is not currently supporting the bill. New reassessments have gone out with devastating increases, many over 50% and higher. In addition, county/townships can add up to 5% and school districts another 10% when it goes into effect next year. This is going to be devastating. In addition, the county voted on annual reassesments every five years. In questioning former commissioner Bruce Barclay, who was against reassments, flipflopped after his reelection saying the procedure was more cost effective. And where does the money come from to fund the reassessment process, I asked rhetorically. From tax dollars, he replied. When I questioned him what seniors should do if faced with losing their homes, he replied "Tell them to contact the Department of aging." They don not get it and they just do not care. Is Tea Party backing anyone in 199th district? We need an independent voice. I do not know if deadline has passed for filing to get on the ballot. Too many people are being driven from the homes they worked for and are now going to be saddled with mandated, IRS enforced health care or having existing policies taxed. According to my understanding of OUR constitution, no government can mandate purchasing anything. They wrap the argument up with comparisons to Medicare and Social Security, which are not a mandated bill, though they are funded by tax dollars. We need health insurance reform, but not disguised as window dressing for self serving pork barrrel kickbacks which penaliize those who are already paying for their own through contribution or personal purchase.
