I would be shocked, though, if any poll exists anywhere showing Steve Welch has an early lead in this crowded primary. He may, after he starts spending his money, make this a competitive race. The geniuses in D.C. certainly think so. But, for now, Curt Schroder is the front-runner. And for once, the front-runner is the best conservative candidate. Given this, it isn't surprising the PA GOP would manage to shoot itself in the foot and steer Welch into taking him on. If by “front-runner” you mean “richest”, I will not quibble with your description of Welch.
