In what in another political climate would be just another shoe in race, house majority leader Tod Eachus is facing what could be a big upset from conservative challenger Tarah Toohil.

Eachus has also been careful to avoid going on the record in a public debate. The Standard Speaker reports,

A person in a chicken costume stood outside House Majority Leader Todd Eachus’ Hazleton office Monday holding a sign that asked, “Why no debate, Todd?”

The question referred to a request posed to the Democratic incumbent by Tarah Toohil, the Butler Township attorney challenging him in the 116th Legislative District.

“I have written, e-mailed, and hand-delivered requests for a debate to Mr. Eachus since Aug. 11, 2010. If it takes a chicken dancing outside of his office to get this community the debate it deserves then so be it,” Toohil said. “All joking aside, I have numerous volunteers and passionate supporters. This chicken is bringing attention to the fact that Mr. Eachus refuses to provide the public with a debate.”
